2016 Year End Review

Everywhere you look on social media there are posts hating on 2016, but not here! Although I’ll admit, there were a few rough patches, I refuse to sit back and let 2016 go by without pausing to remember all of the amazing things we had happen this year. Maybe we’re just a few of the lucky ones, (which I don’t think is the case), but I’d consider this year to be a big success, both personally and professionally, and want to take a moment to reflect on some of the greatness that was 2016.

1 - Eli and I got married! This, of course, tops the list. There is not a single highlight that could stand out more than getting to marry your best friend. Eli will tell you the entire ceremony was a blur, but I remember every moment of it with pure joy. And the party afterwards wasn’t too bad either :)

2 - And speaking of the party, there wouldn’t have been one without our amazing family and friends that literally traveled from all over the country to celebrate with us. My mom, sister, and aunts went above and beyond, visiting a week early to help me prep. We even got all of my college roommates reunited for the first time since 2013 for our quintessential photo, taken at every wedding. It's an amazing feeling to be surrounded by the people you love on your wedding day, and I'm so thankful to have each and every one of them in my life!

3 - We bought a house! Maybe we should just call 2016 "the year that Eli and I became adults" ;) We are officially finished with renting and it feels so good! We didn't want to buy to have more space, (the house itself is technically categorized as a tiny home, under 1000 sq ft, which we are pretty proud of), we just wanted to have a place to call our own. It's a tiny home full of big dreams and lots of love. No to mention a garage as big as the house, which will become the new home office for Thrifty Events. The renovation will be our 2017 project, so more to come on this one!

Trust me, there's a little house back there.

4 - The Witzigreuter clan keeps on growing! I now have 2 nieces and another on the way. I might be a little biased, but they are the cutest!

5 - We traveled to Ireland, stayed at some adorable BNB’s, saw some castles, drank some beer, you know, all the classic Irish things.

6 - I bought a new car, a 2010 Nissan Cube. We named him Tetration (see what we did there? Bonus points if you do), aka Teddy. Although this came about from an unfortunate car accident that totaled my other car, I still consider this a win because I love my Cube!

7 - When I started Thrifty Events in 2015, it was a side project to my full-time job at the UW. In 2016, I transitioned to a part-time position at the UW, and tripled the number of weddings I planned and coordinated. I’m unbelievably lucky, working with the coolest couples this year!  We had so much fun planning with them, and making each wedding day absolutely perfect.

8 - Beyond weddings, I also planned my first bar mitzvah this year, which had such a fun theme and the kids had a blast!

9 - We were published in White magazine for a gorgeous elopement we coordinated at Rattle Snake Ridge State Park. Hands down one of my favorite wedding designs this year!

10 - I joined the Snohomish Wedding Guild and Rising Tide Society, which allowed me to meet some of the most amazing wedding professionals, not to mention participate in our first wedding tour at Crossroads.

This really is just the highlight reel of 2016, and only scratches the surface of all the great things that happened this year. It doesn't include the weekend getaways, days spent boating with friends, ski trips, friends' weddings, phone calls home and even a few trips back to the Midwest to see family, home renovations, date nights, good books, the list goes on and on! Thank you to everyone that had a part in making this year so amazing! We have so much to look forward to in 2017, but for now, pour some bubbly. It's time to celebrate. Cheers to 2016, and Happy New Year, everyone!
