I'm Candi Block, founder of Thrifty Events and creator of the online wedding planning course for couples, Wedding Building Blocks. I began this journey a few years ago with a little nudge from my sister and friends. I've always enjoyed event planning, but I honestly thought that everyone did. When my younger sister, Kelli, and I were planning my older sister's bridal and baby showers, Kelli confessed how much she hated event planning. I was surprised since I thought we both were having a good time planning out the invitations, looking over excel spreadsheets of RSVP responses and timelines, and decorating the venues together. Turns out, it was just me having fun, but I accepted her disdain and moved on. It wasn't until about a year later when a colleague and friend also pointed out that my enthusiasm for event planning was a bit higher than most, and I realized then that I should pursue this passion.
Couples are excited to plan their weddings, but not everyone has a background in event planning. The good news is that it's a skill that can be learned. My passion is to share my industry knowledge, organizational skills, and event planning experience with those that are eager for guidance.
My goal is to be a resource & sounding board to empower & guide couples through the planning process, because wedding planning should be less stressful and less overwhelming, and way more fun!

I’m Amy Elizabeth Gorton, event planning assistant and the woman behind Thrifty Events' social media accounts. I’m very creative and organized, two qualities I've found to be great for planning and executing events. I didn’t originally pursue event planning as a career, but instead got my planning-fix through coordinating events for my sorority, my graduate program, and wedding activities like bridal showers for friends. I absolutely love weddings and am really excited that I’m now flexing my skills professionally to help Candi and our couples have the best day of their lives.

What really matters
We hired Thrifty Events for our day of wedding coordination; and it was hands down one of the best decisions we made.
Candi is easy-going, organized, and knows what she is doing. She has a passion for events, and weddings in particular. She and her partner were amazing assets on the day of, setting up and breaking down, as well as handling all of the vendor coordination. She also ran our rehearsal the day before the wedding; which really put me and my husband at ease.
We used several of Candi’s vendor recommendations, and couldn’t have been happier. She had affordable suggestions for catering, bartending, photography, and hair/make-up. Each of these recommendations panned out beyond our expectations.
Candi, is one of those few people, who truly loves what she does, and she has fun doing it - her passion shines through. If you are looking for a thoughtful day of coordinator, wedding or party planner, with great attention to detail, and a resource of expertise - hire Thrifty Events (before someone else does) for your date!” - Sandra
Hiring Thrifty Events was the best decision we’ve made for our wedding. Without Candi, we wouldn’t have a wedding, let alone a unique wedding that all the guests are still gushing about. She is also super, super nice and she listened to what we wanted. She has incredible taste and so resourceful in finding interesting venues and vendors. We now have an incredible day to remember for the rest of our lives. Thank you Candi!” - CT
We have kids and two full time jobs and we didn’t have a lot of time to devote to wedding planning - so hiring Candi was an easy decision for us. She was excellent at making things seamless for us - dealing with vendors, vetting bands and caterers, getting contracts executed, acting as go between for countless little requests of vendors, keeping us organized and on track and away from busy work. Like all weddings, ours went through multiple “revisions” as we thought about what was really important to us and what we hoped for on the day itself. Through each revision, update, and re-work Candi was there to provide ideas, recommendations, and keep us grounded, on-time and and within budget. She even designed some amazing invitations for us at very little cost. On the day of the wedding she was tireless in making sure that everything pulled together and we had nothing to do but just enjoy ourselves - it’s a testament to her work that even though we had an outdoor ceremony, a “parade” to the reception, 2 bands, 6 kids with wedding roles and a multitude of things that could’ve gone wrong - nothing did. She did an excellent job and we would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a wedding planner.” - Brad

I serve as a Board of Director for the Kent Chamber of Commerce and a co-leader for the Rising Tide Society's Tuesdays Together Tacoma group. (Phew, that's a mouthful!) Essentially, I enjoy getting together with other business and creative wedding industry professionals to exchange ideas, and share our struggles and successes. This whole solo-entrepreneur thing isn't always easy, so it's great to have a strong support network. You can even find a few of my own business ownership tips on the Rising Tide Society's blog.
You may not know it, but I'm also a YouTube sensation... totally kidding, but I do enjoy vlogging and sharing wedding planning advice regularly. Check out my vlog if you haven't already!
